Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I really like the composition of this piece with the corner, profile view of the lady. The image of the couple reminds me of the pictures taken in a photo booth. There seems to be a very clean, and straight line created on the bottom image of the couple (left side) in contrast to the image of the couple at the top, which breaks that clean line. I feel that if you wanted to portray the couple in a photobooth type of image, you should keep the line straight and clean; or if you like the way the top image of the couple is starting to emerge out of their frame, then bring that quality all the way through to the bottom image of the couple. I like your lines and mark making throughout the piece. The large figure has some spots of flatness where shadow may be needed, yet it seems to work in areas like the curve of the back, the chin and neck. The arms and hands are very dark in value scale compared to the rest of the figure's image. I like this piece and I like that we as the viewer can read the couple's happiness in bringing a new life to the world. It also can be read in the expression of the standing figure's face.
An interesting image. The detail and proportions are amazing. The smaller images on the left are reminiscent of a strip of photos from a photo booth, creating a kind of contemporary memorialization of an era in these people's life.
This is a very beautiful collage. I really like the line work and the use of value in the faces. You captured a lot of emotion. You can see the models happiness in her growing belly. Overall, really nice job.
You did a great job using the transfer method and captured such loving emotion in your piece. I really like your composition, the three small photos alongside the large photo was effective in making the composition appear balanced. Good job!
These images have an appearance of being traced, did you use some kind of projection? The line quality is very graphic but the contrast is low, if that was your intentions thats fine, but the white spaces in-between the larger figure and the stills give the impression that this is not a complete piece. Given the graphic nature of the lines, more contrast would make the piece more visually interesting. The figure and the film style images look pasted together but not fully integrated.
I like the feel of your piece, it's very happy. I would just suggest thinking more about composition, and adding more values. More contrast would also add a lot to this piece.
While this is a nice piece, it seems more like a line drawing than a collage/composite piece. The mark making is good and you convey the emotions in the subjects well, however the film-strip style pictures on the left throw the balance off since they seem to drift to the right as they go down.
The figure of this piece are done very well. There is a sense of emotion throughout. It just doesn't seem like one cohesive piece due to the use of negative space. Somehow the figures need to feel tied together.
I think the meaning behind the piece is very cute. You have great figures and I like the expressions of the couple. I would have liked to have seen more textures, depth and overall collaging. Adding in more dark lines and adding something to the negative space in the background would make your piece more striking.
I dont remember going over this piece in class but i think you did a great job on this project and it looks fantaztic. I love the moments you captured, and the lady with the baby looks like a wonderful moment and the skill of drawing is very nice.
I think this was a transfer collage if I'm not mistaken. The overall proportions are perfect and the details in the faces are very real. Very little in range of values but the whole aseptic holds well together. I find the photo strip idea to be very cool.
I think this piece is a lot more successful than the version you showed us in class. Overall, your composition, proportions, value range, and capture of emotion are of a much higher level. The "photo booth" idea is very original and effective. To give the piece more of a sense of completeness, you could add more dark darks and bright whites to the figure on the right, but leave the photo strip as it is, as if it's sort of faded and in the past. Great job!
