Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
Overall the darks are done very well, and the aesthetic of the original is obvious. That being said, becuase this excercise seemed to be in your comfort zone, you could try copying artists that aren't this graphic to try and challenge yourself and grow as an artist.
I love how bold your images are. I think they work great as a series, and the mark making you chose to use really ties them together. Also, I think charcoal was a great choice. It really allowed you to get those deep values.
I was really impressed with this piece. The high contrast makes for a very dramatic feel, and I liked that you used similar clothing to really capture the style of the master copy.
Your master copy and original are so well done that my family members couldn't tell them apart. I think that you were very successful at creating a mat black with charcoal.
Both pieces really belong with each other. The use of the three values of black, grey and white sets this image apart and makes it stand out. Would make a great wall poster!
Really well done, You did an amazing job of capturing Shepard's style, even though you were using charcoal. Now make stickers of it and post them all over the place!
These works are both extremely successful and I love the use of value blocks to create an image. I do think that on your original the hair still reads as a darker color, but I am unsure how to change that.
The darks in this piece look amazing and contrast very well with the whites throughout both pieces. The different shapes look crisp. I think both works reflect the style you were going for.
Your use of charcoal was amazing its so high contrast! I have no Idea how you kept your pieces so "clean". Both pictures like they were done from the same artist. The only thing I would suggest is to put a few highlight in your sisters shirt, like Joan Jets jacket. Very done!
This is a successful pairing of the two drawings. These works both have great use of values scale, it's clean, and the highlights work for the shiny look. I like the comparisons between shiny and flat in these two pieces.
Very nicely done. Layers are seen. Blacks are fantastic. Master Study Beautifully done. Same mark making. The feeling of the original seems to be intact.

ReplyDeleteI am still absolutely impressed at how much your study looks like the copy. You are clearly comfortable with the tools and the style of mark-making.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy how similar the study looks like the copy. The boldness really works for this piece and how the jacket is created to look like leather.
