Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
The white color block next to the figure's arm in your study really draws the viewer's eye away from the rest of your picture. I think that if you fill this area in with color we will be able to focus on the details of the face more.
I love the designs that you created in your master study. They work well with the master copy. I would just suggest working on the hair a little more in your master study. There are more wispy strands in the master copy that don't appear in your master study.
I love how you created the faces on the images. It is very hard to tell which on is your copy because they both look so similar. I really enjoy their realistic qualities and the line and value on them as well.
I loved these pieces! I am slightly obsessed with dia de Los muertos so I am slightly biased. Your mark making is excellent, and flows with the original perfectly!
Both of these pieces look like they came out of the same studio. I prefer your own original to the master copy because of how you used your model to fill the space. You may have wanted to make the background darker to make the pieces look even more alike, but I really like them as they stand apart.
Both pieces were very effective in portraying the artist's style. I was really impressed with how smooth the charcoal value shifts were. Of the two, your master study was my favorite. Very well done, but maybe put a light value in the upper left corner of your study.
I liked these pieces very much. Nicely done! I would suggest filing in the white space on your study to make the piece more complete. Also, the copy seems to have a much sharper contrast of lights and darks then the study. The study seems very soft in comparison. Sharpening these contrasts in the study would help it match the artists style a bit better.
I have read the other comments above and I would have to believe the comments about filling in the white space. I think it is distracting to the viewers. but good job on the compositions it is a good interpretation of the master.
I think these two pieces work really well together, this is one of the sets I could not tell the master copy from the original. The images are very dynamic, the only thing that really bothered me was the white space on your original, but I also remember you said you were unsure about that one too.
Both pieces definitely work together. The darks and lights are on point and contrast each other very well. Some areas in the study seem a bit empty but other than that both pieces are amazing.
I cannot tell the master study from the original which is very impressive! I love your use of value and how realistic it is. I love the overall composition of your study and it flows really well together.
There is a great use in value scale in the faces of these works. The hair on the master study could have more wispy pieces like in the master copy, and the background could be more defined or darker to match the master copy. The subject in the master study work really well with the master copy in creating an almost identical model with the Dia de los Muertos face painting.

ReplyDeleteBoth copy and study are nicely rendered. The use of value is good. Could have pushed the darks a little further in the study.
