MASTER STUDY

  1. Good job, I think you really tried to challenge yourself. The aesthetic is very similar to the original artist. Hands are hard, especially if your friend has very pale soft hands. the lighting will very subtle and will mostly be negative space. You will get better with practice, you can also look up hand drawing tut's online. Some are very helpful.

  2. I remember you used two different types of paper surfaces and voiced the issues your came across because of this. I think that regardless of the surface, you did manage to recreate the master artist's mark-making style. I think your study was successful.

  3. Great job on both of these pieces. I love the mark making in your master copy, it has a nice smooth quality. I think if you brought more of that smoothness into your master study the two pieces would relate even more.

  4. I really enjoy the mark making in this piece! I enjoy how the figures line are identical to the backround of the piece. The value also is very nice and ads to the realism to the piece.

  5. I really appreciated how much your creation looked like the original. The only problem I had with this was the two different types of paper used. They prevented the textures of the pictures from being the same, but all together I think it's very successful.

  6. This was one of my favorite pieces. I think that you did a very good job capturing the essence of the master copy, without it being too similar. Good range of values also:)

  7. I think you did a great job matching your study to the master piece. I really can't see anything you might want to improve except next time matching the type of paper more closely. Nice job.

  8. Extremely detailed pieces. Great range in values, very good proportions and well drawn folds in the clothing. I absolutely loved the two images. The choice of drawing on a canvas as opposed the paper copy was different, but no complaints on how well both drawings came out.

  9. I love the master copy you chose! I feel its a very romantic and solitary vibe. I feel as if you represented your own version of the master copy very well, but I feel as if you could have changed the composition up a little more rather then using the exact same background as the master.

  10. These are both really fantastic! the mark making, expressiveness, and value range are all very similar to the master's, and your proportions are spot on. Both drawings show incredible technical and expressive skill. The one part in the study that i think could be improved is the model's left hand, which sort of seems to come out of nowhere. Clarifying this--maybe adding more of an arm-like mass in the fabric of covering up more of the arm--would solve this problem. well done!

  11. Wonderful job, I enjoy the romantic feel in both images and the vast difference in lights and darks is very dynamic. As I recall, in class I felt that the hand in the original work was a little odd, but it comes across much better photographed.

  12. The master copy is done very well. It is full of value, contrast and detail. The study follows the copy. It is amazing. You seemed to capture the style and the detail of the original. Furthermore, you seemed to capture the essence of the original. The subject matter and the feeling emanated from the original is all present in your study.

  13. Both your master copy and you original work very well as a pair. You captured the painterly aspects very well in both pieces. Even though your original copy is amazing more value could enhance the overall piece. I know you were worried about the way you drew hands but they translate very well in both pieces. GOOD JOB!

  14. These work great as a pair. I like the way the faces are detailed with very little mark making. You have a great use of the value scale for both the master copy and study. The master study model and background work well for trying to portray the artist’s original.

  15. You did a very nice job on both the copy and study. Your marks are similar and the value is done nicely. I think you did a nice job on the background and with filling the space.
