Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
This work is very successful in collage and use of color. I like that the hands are transparent, allowing the color from underneath show through, just like skin shows hints of color from the veins and muscles beneath the skin. I like the contrast between the flat spaces and the transparent spaces of the image as well as the saturate colors. The star burst works well behind the image of the cell because it helps balance the page and center the images. It can also read as symbolism like in religion where the star burst and cell look like a halo around the figure. The star burst also gives the work an advertising feel or like a print. Well done!
I like the effect of this piece. I think it is balanced and I think the color palate works well. I did find the use of superflat areas and some of the highly detailed three dimensional drawing to be discordant.
I love that you incorporated art and science. I would have liked to see the hair and shirt translucent. Hands are done nice. Nice work in combining sketching and computer.
I really like how your piece has a sort of pop art/commercial feel to it. I also really like the scientific feel that you gave to the piece. The hands you drew were very interesting and detailed and gave dimension to the flatness of your piece. Awesome:)
This piece is very graphic, but visually it could stronger. Graphic design is always smooth, clean and simple. The nucleus behind the head is a bit of a detractor from the details of the head. Instead of cutting off the hands, it would be nice to see the whole thing. The contrast of the flat graphical images to the rounded and shaded hands is interesting, Also the way the torso simply gets cut off on the bottom breaks the smooth round visual you have at the top in jarring way.
I like your collage it is very scientific and artistic at the same time. I like the sun ray and how the hands hold the cell and the skeleton. Great composition, and color palate.
I think that your overall composition was easy to read. Your choice of color has muted the surreal effect and allowed the subject matter to come across to the viewer. The only thing I would recommend is to find a way to make the cell in the background stand apart from the figure in the foreground. At first glance, it blends into the head of the figure, and it does not read a a cell. It was only after I took a third look at it (and you explained the image) that it dawned on me what it was.
I like the layered feel of your piece, and the use of flat versus sculpted. I think the hands are very effective, and I think the graphic nature of your piece is very successful.
I think you did an excellent job on this piece. Everything seems to work well together. I like how you have to refocus to see the different layers of the piece at first. Nice.
I think this piece looks amazing. The colors seem to be thought out well and balance each other out. The chest/clothing area looks great on top the hands. The skull and the hair area also looks great. The only complaint I have is that it seems to almost blend in with the shapes and colors in the background. It would look much better if it contrasted and stood out more.
Amazing, just like a print. I think I even prefer it posted online because I can really see more of the variations in purple in your figure. But, the background color is lost. Yet viewing it in person, I still think that there should be slightly more contrast in the purples you chose. I think that your matte colors work well with the boldness of your pattern in the background and I really like that we can still see so many layers and aspects of your piece regardless of the fact that it's digital.
I love this piece the colors work niecely and I think the subject is very cool. I dont know how computer generated art works but I think it would have been cool if you would have added some drawing elements on it or pasted some of your physical drawings on it.
You did very well in displaying the biology and anatomy of the human figure. The colors are very saturated but holds a sort of advertising appeal to it. None of the colors are to over powering and the collage as a whole holds well together.
Great job! i don't really know where to begin. I think your composition was excellent. Its very difficult to arrange areas of such differing depth and line quality and still keep an overall sense of unity and organization in space. I understand the idea that you were going for, and I enjoy the overall graphic quality of the print. I do wish the figure rose above the cell in the background. there are a couple of deep reds in both that pull the figure down and make it seem flatter than it is. Other than that i think your piece is wonderful!
