Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
Great use of a repeating pattern in the background and with the foot. This composition is also well balanced. This pattern and image would work great and successful in a textile, and in a quilt.
I really enjoyed the visuals in this piece and think it would make a fantastic quilt. The only thing that doesn't seems to work as well to me is the foot on the far right. It seems to have less tonal variation than the other two feet, overall.
I love the geometric quality of this piece. I like the different values uses for each foot. It differentiated the three figurative elements from each other while also making them cohesive.
Its cool you decided to use fabric as your collage medium the composition is very strong and fun to look at. However the far right foot seem to be lacking something.
I like your composition and the texture in your piece. I like that the raven was a last minute add because I think it adds a lot to the meaning behind this. I also like the graphic feel with the patterned background.
I like your piece its almost creepy with the 3 cut off feet and the crow. I love the quilt look you chose. I think your composition is balenced and looks very visually apealing
Your background choice worked very well stylistically and give a nice off-balance feel to the piece. Personal preference makes me want to add something small to the right of the crow to balance the piece more, but otherwise nice job.
I love how this piece seems balanced due to the triangular shape of the feet/crow. This balance is then contrasted by the erratic shape of the background. Maybe put more values into the right foot and the crow to help them stand out more.
The online scan really does not do your piece justice. I remember seeing it in the room and loving the amount of detail and texture you could see. The zig zags mixed with the curvy lines in the feet make the piece look so interesting and give it depth. I love that your bold pattern choices, though distinct and heavy, do not portray monotony. I think more variation in value in the black foot could help it stand apart from the crow.
You utilized the techniques taught in class very well in this single piece. There's little range in values but the is a strong sense of depth. The crow is very detailed and the patterns blend well with the figures.

ReplyDeleteI love the texture, shapes, and patterns. The feet are nicely done. The third foot should have had some more highlights.

ReplyDeleteThe chevron behind the piece is really nice. It creates a nice balance between the crow and the background.
