COLLAGE/ COMPOSITE

  1. In this piece you can successfully see the differences of light and dark, and life vs. death; which works well with the message of if our planet is poisoned, then so will our food get poisoned.

  2. I think parts of this were successful, I liked the contrast in the two sides. I did not read into this piece what you had in mind, I kept trying to make literary references but was unable to resolve them before the critique.

  3. I really like the tree with the small intricate leaves. The concept is really beautiful. The brown on the bottom seems to not fit well; maybe a smoother texture would help.

  4. I recognized the important message which you were trying to convey. I think the eerie scarecrow, the poison apple and the farmer in the gas mask were the symbols which I recognized. Very good use of color also, very subtle but effective.

  5. I personally couldn't decipher the images apart, the achromatic tone smears all the images together and nothing really stands out. The first time i didn't read pollution or environmental messages. I just saw a split tree and some fuzzy figures. Perhaps adding more color in to one side could strengthen the message. Try studying composition more, the eyes has no markers to go off of since everything in the image has the same mark making, and colors.

  6. Before your presentation of your piece it was hard to read the message you were trying to convey. My eyes got lost in the image and I wasn't sure where to look. Cool concept I just wish it was clearer to read.

  7. I think that this piece would have worked better had you used more color. I know that was not a requirement of the project, but if you ever decide to redo this piece that would be my first suggestion. I say this because you have a lot depending on the viewer's interpretation of your narrative. If color is not something you would prefer, then my second recommendation would be to vary your mark-making styles. This would allow the viewer to distinguish between the elements of your picture.

  8. I like the smoothness in some areas of your piece. I just didn't see the meaning you intended shining through. Maybe thinking more about composition and the elements in your drawing would help.

  9. I like your use of color on the apple. Furthermore, the linework on the branches on the left side of the work look great. To strengthen this piece maybe you should create more contrast amongst the image and use more color. Differentiate between darks and highlights. The piece could be really strong it just needs more depth to create a sense for the subjects.

  10. The color and line work is really nice. There could be a little more difference between darks, lights and hi lights.

  11. Lovely piece, but I think that if you intensify your colors your story could be perceived better. When I first saw it, it reminded me of a yin yang picture which I thought was pretty cool. I also think that your piece could benefit greatly from image placement i.e. your transfers in relation to your animal and farmer drawings.

  12. I think your relationship to eating healthy and watching what kind of foood you eat. i think its great it has a personal touch. I feel like the colors are muted and it does reflect a sad tone.

  13. I think you were successful in displaying pollution and it's environmental damage. The overall theme seems to symbolize life and death. I liked the little piece of red you put for the apple. I wider range in values would've great in displaying some more depth into the collage.
