Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I love your horizontal movement of your piece. I also like the stark contrast between the light and dark figures. The only thing that throw me off is the right lower corner seems to missing something?
This whole piece gives off a sense of movement. The diagonal quality of your composition works because it is the only thing in the picture plane. On the same note, I think it would be interesting to see what it would have looked like to include more figures in strips of dark and light.
I love your composition and the weightiness of the figures. I like the sharp contrasts between black and white, and overall, I think this is a very successful piece. The organic composition is great.
I thought this piece was very cool! I loved the 3-D aspect to it. It flows well and draws the eye from top to bottom. My only suggestions would be to fill in the empty rectangle in the lower right and perhaps make the background a bit darker. Nice job.
I love how you create your figures, both stylistically and technically. They all look amazing and have so much shape and depth to them. Furthermore, I really how the light figures contrasted so much with the dark figures. The dark ones make the lighter ones pop even more. There is also a sense of movement and grace that comes from this piece that I really appreciate.
You have great organic flow in your piece. The black, white, mid-tone background work perfectly together. The human form and element make me think of the double-helix of DNA. The piece would have a slightly more finished look with the addition of a black piece or cropping at the bottom corner. Overall, well done.
I like the fact that you only used three different value scales to create this. The cut out created a very interesting effect. The tear drop like geometric shapes used to create the figures are somehow very organic. There's a sense of movement in this piece.
Aside from the composition, I think your choice to use three distinct tones really helps the sense of flow and motion you captured with this piece. It really seems like you're pouring two kinds of liquid that are intertwining. I think you could enhance this effect by darkening the background so that it is more in between black and white; currently it is closer to the white of the figures.

ReplyDeletethis piece is one of my favs it looks soo good, but the corner is distracting for sure. I think the bottom right corner needs some kind of filler.
