Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I really enjoyed these pieces, I can't even tell which one is the master and which is the study. You have the feel and style down to a T. I'm curious as to how you handle larger more detailed figures.
I think you captured the feeling of your master copy very successfully. The only thing that separates the two pieces for me is the checkered pattern of your master study. It breaks up the flow of the figure in space, which can be seen in the master copy.
So cool! Your use of negative space is really my favorite part of your pieces. You perfectly replicated the slight distortion of the Kadel's original work as well.
I love the negative spaces in both images, really draws the eye towards the image. I actually like your original piece much more than the master copy. It has incorporates both a 3D and 2D aspect and more of a figurative posture that the master copy lacks.
This style of art is difficult because not only do you have to think about composition and proportion, but you also have to consider the imagination and narrative behind the piece. That being said, your copy is perfect and your study is very creative. The checkered pattern and the model sitting/ pulling it have an interesting visual effect, almost like an optical illusion. I like that part of the study a lot, but i do feel like the pattern can overwhelm the figure, especially from afar. It doesn't hurt the piece, but its just something to keep in mind. Awesome job!
Amazing. I only knew which was the master copy because I was familiar with the work. I think that the use of value was similar for both, and the smoothness and body distortion of each are in line with each other. I think you really captured the sense of humor and irreverence that is present in your master copy.
I loved both of yours! The copy looks amazing. The study is what I was really impressed by. I love how you were able to reproduce a piece that had an aesthetic similar to the artist. The cloth and the clothing on the girl along with her pose seem to be something the original artist would create!
Your pieces work together well. I've always admired your artistic style. I love your use of negative space in your master study, and honestly I would not be able to tell which is the copy/study. If I did not already know. The portions are elongated but I believe this was intentional.
This pair of drawings work great together. They really look as if they came from the same studio. The style of the artist is well replicated in the lengthening/shortening of limbs and in the narrative that I was confused at which drawing was the copy of the artist's hand, and which drawing was your original idea. Great job!
Nice copy. Master Study Mark making very similar to master. Looks like it could be from the same artist. Really love to see the shape of legs through the socks and the shape of the belly through value shifts.

ReplyDeleteThe style is very successful and I love the use of sharpie for your pieces. They both look very similar which makes this piece a success.
ReplyDeleteI loved your works! They were truly awesome! I would not change anything!

ReplyDeleteBoth pieces expressed the integrity of the artist's style, but you really made the master copy your own. Great works!!!

ReplyDeleteVery nice! I loved these two. Great creativity on the study.
ReplyDeleteI had trouble distingushing the difference between the artist and yours, you did a really good job I wish mine was just as indistinguisable as yours.
