COLLAGE/ COMPOSITE

  1. I like your use of mixed media and color. This piece is somber yet has pop art influences (with the hand stencil repeated and the colors). The mark making is great in conveying the nervousness of the figures. It is also great because it lets the viewer read emotions of unease.

  2. I believe this piece was well thought out and executed well, it really took on more meaning with the connection to AA.

  3. Love the composition. The idea is nice to try to understand the inner workings of addiction. The color use is really nice and directs the eye. I really like the blue hand but the box around it takes me away from the image.

  4. My favorite part of your piece was the scratchy almost erratic outlines surrounding your hands and boyfriend. It connects with the fidgety behavior you said people were expressing. I think if you had drawn all of the sketches on the board it would have looked more cohesive, but I think it was successful overall. Nicely done.

  5. This piece was one of my favorites. I like the composition and shape of your media. I also felt like your boyfriend was drawn in a way which showed your personal connection with him, where as the strangers were less clear and appeared more distant. I liked the loose expressive line quality paired with the stencils.

  6. I think the concept and visuals are working together, you should have asked if drawing the members of AA was ok with them. They are called anonymous for a reason, be careful in this kind of subject matter not to be exploitive of certain people for your aesthetics. People have feelings, they aren't just sensational objects to use in order to have meaning to your artwork.

  7. Your concept is what intrigues me the most. I know many people who struggle with alcohol addiction, and AA is incredible because it is full of people who actually want to make a change in their life. I love your use of mixed media. Your sketchy expressive line in the figures are a cool contrast to the solid color background. I also like the turquoise hand it bring a nice contrast and bright nice to the piece.

  8. I get a sense of temporality from your piece. Your subjects seem to existed at that moment as recovering addicts, but they are not seen that way by the strangers who meet them outside of the group meetings. When I combine this sense with your mark-making style, I definitely see your figures as impermanent and evolving.

  9. I really enjoyed your piece and the story behind it. I love the size of it, and the impact all of the figures have as individuals. Your use of color was very successful, and it really contributes to the sense of depth in this piece.

  10. I was very impressed and moved by your piece. I would like to give you some suggestions for improvement, but I honestly wouldn't change a thing. The sketches you incorporated really give the piece a surreal feeling and your use of mark-making supports this well. Nice job!

  11. I love the way the subject was portrayed. There seems to almost be a sense of tension in the face and in the linework. Futhermore, the figures in the background all blend in seamlessly despite the use of different mediums. The piece is really successful technically and emotionally. The only issue I have is that the yellow square seems to be a bit distracting but that isn't a big issue.
