Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
You clearly understood the aesthetic of the artist. My only suggestion would be to go back and work more on the hand and arm. Now that we've been working on hands, I think you'd be able to greatly modify this piece.
I love the feel of your pieces, the facial expressions are great. The only thing I would suggest would be to define a light source in your master study. Otherwise, these two work well as a pair.
The characters look so similar to each other which I really enjoy. The expressions on each of the pieces are very similar and which helps make this project for you a success.
Great work! The slight distortions of the artist's pinup style are difficult to capture, but I think you captured that well. The proportions of one of your hands in your original piece are slightly off and the direction of light and shadow could help tie everything together better.
I think you emulated the style of your artist very well. Character distortions can be difficult, but I think you did a nice job. However, the bowed arm still seems out of place even in a piece like this so I would still check your proportions.
You did well with both pieces. I really can see the two as a set. The stylized drawings pair well with the distortion in proportions and subject matter.
I think your choice of artist is awesome! lol we picked the same artist too, I think you did a really good version of the master copy but I feel as if the composition could be more original in your version.
Your mark making and composition really help these two drawing speak to each other. You really captured the overall feel of the artist well. I think a couple of adjustments to the proportions in the head of the study would aid its similarity to the copy and would increase its effect as a stand alone piece. good job!
I think that these two do work together, mostly drawn together by the quality of the marks and how they are applied to the page. The biggest difference between the two is the proportionality of the two figures. The proportions in your original is closer to the proportions in reality while in the master copy the proportions are more... like the proportions of a pin-up.
Both pieces are done very well. I love the way you fleshed out the bodies of both figures. The way you created the dresses is amazing too. They both work together to create solid works. The faces seem to leave something desired though.
You really captured your artists style well and your models look almost identical. Values are good however the proportion in the hand behind your sisters head confuses me. Still very well done though.
You have great highlights in the master study but you could’ve used more lights from the value scale. Keeping a consistent light source would help. These pieces both work in a series as they are both soft in the mark making and distortion. The master study has a bit more distortion to the area of the arm, and wrist to hand.
Your master and study fit the style of your artist well. Next time try to push yourself further and try other things.

ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job capturing the caricature like style of Currin. Very cool!

ReplyDeleteThe study looks as though it could be part of a series with copy. The face is nicely rendered. The values are done well in both the study and copy.
