Homework: 4/11

As we are working in wet media, we have discussed different paints, how they are composed (pigment, binder, fillers/ extenders). Most of you have been working in acrylic to this point. Some of you will chose to continue to work in acrylic, though many will transition into oils (and one watercolor. this is pre-arranged). For your homework I want you to find out what the heck these differences mean. You are looking for the following for ACRYLIC, OIL, TEMPERA, GOUACHE, WATERCOLOR (Choose 3):

1. BINDER & FILLER/EXTENDER

2. How do I thin this paint?

3. What is best/ most common surface to work on? Does this need to be treated/ primed?

4. General levels of opacity/ translucence?

5. Best brushes to use? (always remember how to care for brushes is just as important!!)

6. Three different techniques on how to paint with this medium.

7. One FIGURATIVE example of EACH of the five painting media done well. (think about this in terms of your final project too. Maybe research "figure studies"to be most helpful?)

Use your words, but if you need to imbed links for examples, this is fine as well. This is mostly research for you and others on the class.

Questions 1-6 DUE Tuesday. Question 7 DUE the following Thursday.
