SELF PORTRAIT

  1. I like the fact that you incorporated a computer into this. It gives the impression that the computer is a huge part of what you do and who you are.

  2. Cool concept, the expression on your face makes this seem very dark and foreboding, like your trapped in cyberspace or something. A little more variation in black and whites could make the drawing stand out more.

  3. I really love the computer desktop foreground put into the piece. Looks like you were getting a photo taken for an ID card. The rough and dark shades are really cool.

  4. I like your composition, the computer screen adds an interesting element. But I think lighter highlights would make the drawing pop more.

  5. The illustrative quality of your image is quite lovely. I think that you should integrate a greater variety of darks and lights.

  6. The overall image is well thought out, it is very midtone heavy. I would have like to see more range, especially creating a more, screen-like effect.

  7. I agree with everyone about more use of highlights and darks to help your portrait. The use of the computer as a frame is interesting.

  9. Excellent portrait, I believe the context you put yourself in has illustrated a great deal of personality. I know it can be hard drawing from a computer, I'm just curious to know if you adjusted the brightness and contrast on you camera--I think playing around with this in the future could help you use a wider value scale.

  10. I like your portrait but I feel as if you didnt really need to have the computer screen, I dont see how it relates to you and it is distracting.

  11. I love the darks in your jacket and in your hair. Adding more highlights and contrast throughout yourself in this image would really help it pop and be more effective.

  12. i like how, with the last piece, you divulged your interest in digital art, and this piece shows you trapped in your own medium. in this sense, it works very very well as a self portrait, especially since its done in charcoal. I don't mind the expressive, delineated style so much as the slanted computer window. I think your idea would come across a little clearer if you straightened out those horizontal lines.

  13. Nice smooth value changes. I like the use of the computer in your composition, although it doesn't look realistic.

  14. Jasmen Vivar- The computerized frame around your face suggests that you used maybe a photograph rather than a mirror. Or maybe the computer frame is symbolic stating that you love and work with computers a lot? Love the midtones in your face, very subtle yet they give a lot of information.
