Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I think your composition and expression are very successful in this piece. I would just suggest adding subtle variations in light and dark on the right side of your hair to make it look more molded.
The first recommendation that comes to mind is to pay attention to highlights. Even though there may not be an extremely bright white spot on every surface that you look at, there are spots that are lighter than the others around it. I think that if you look for these spots, they can add to the three-dimensional quality of your piece.
Overall I think this is a wonderful piece. I am really drawn to the life spark in the eyes. The only area that seemed a little off were the lips, but they were not distracting.
Great value scale and highlights! The highlights are what help make this piece successful. I feel you just need some subtle highlights in the hair (top, right corner). Great job in capturing the expression of the face too.
I think your portrait turned out so great!. The way that you filled the picture up with your face reminds me a lot of the master copy Sue did ( I cannot recall the artist). You did a great job getting all the values in and which give your face life, dimension, and texture.
I love your portrait, i think it is so friendly and it just makes people happy to see other people happy, so good job. and usually teeth are challenging, but you did such a good job
The values in this piece are very well done. I love the close up angle and your highlights. The area around the nose is a tad more contourish compared to the rest of the piece but that isn't a big issue.
I think this piece is incredible, its definitely my favorite of yours from the semester. You've done a fantastic job of modeling your face and creating a sense of light, the splash of light on your right cheek is astounding. you could maybe soften the contour around your nose a little bit, but i think is pretty perfect as it is!
I like the how close up this is. It allows for you to get a greater amount of detail in the piece.
ReplyDeleteVery expressive looks like you but also you manage to capture your personality. , the shading is soft and modeled nicely.
ReplyDeleteI really love the ranges in values. You captured the expression of yourself very well. The close up effect was very different.

ReplyDeleteVery nice, especially how you captured your smile. Nice use of highlights to capture where the light source was.
