Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
The blue color gives a calm atmosphere, the shading on your face is a bit skewed looking. Take a look at how light illuminates one side of your face and shades another. The hair feels stiff. Keep shading subtle and gradual.
The single use of color gives a very soothing mood much like the ocean. There's excellent use of values on the face and the individual highlight strokes of the hair create a sort of 3D effect to the flat black hair.
I really like your composition and the expression on your face is great. Your use of value works great, especially on the hair. Nice choice of color too.
Your decision to use an individual flat color behind your portrait works well. It doesn't take away or overpower your image. I am interested to see what affect other colors would have on your portrait.
Great use of highlights in this piece! I especially like the hair. the values in your face are really good too. There is a different style or graphic to your face, but I like it; It works for the piece. I like the background being an hombre blue color as well.
I like the expression you chose for your face. It really brings an "attitude" to the piece and gives the viewer a glimpse of who you are as an artist. Nicely done.
Overall a great and successful piece. I believe that your eyes are a little disproportionate. My favorite part of your portrait is your hair; it looks weighty and real--super awesome.
I love the way you created the piece. I really like the marks in your face to create values. It conveys the image but has great mark making that is still present to the viewer. The composition and the eye direction are also great on this piece.
great job creating a relaxed yet playful atmosphere with this piece. I think you chose the perfect blue to complement the grey and black in the figure, but i do think you should cut off the border on the top and bottom. It detracts a bit from the depth you've created in your face. awesome job!
I really love this! I like the highlights it your hair, very effective. It looks like your eyes are slightly enlarged, or cartooned. I really like that about the piece. It resembles you very much:)
Laken Correa- Your highlight in your hair are amazing! Your piece is very sound compositionally, the blue background works well and subtle contrasts of color on your face are amazing!
The shading on this is very nice. I love how the blue goes from dark to light.
