Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I love how the separate eyes are attached. It's as if you are wearing a mask and the real you is hidden. I wish I could have read your artist statement.
Your pieces always turn out to be amazing. The design element of the background always looks like something that can be worn on a shirt. Only your face is shown and nothing else but its enough to make an effective self portrait.
I love the texture that the spray paint creates in your piece. The sewn on eyes are a great choice, and your shading makes them really pop out. Nice layering too.
I like your layering of color because it creates a depth for the background and seems like blurry lights in the distance. Great use of color and I really like the face with very little use of lines. I also like the drips in the face. The sewn on mask remind me of Mona Stipe's last piece with the sewn on features of the face.
Cool interpretive way to do your self portrait. I like the colors and the emphasis on your eyes. The collage element is neat: it gives me the impression that you are made from all different elements...? I think that a shoulder or the slightest outline of a neck would make your portrait more figurative, but it's great as is too.
you have a very deep style, i always love seeing what you create. you have again showed your mastery of media, spray paint can be very difficult to use freehand, but you seem to have perfected your technique. my only desire is that you darken the bottom of your face; the bottom of the mouth/chin area. I think this will preserve the fade and integration you're going for while also giving the focal point more presence.
I love your piece, the composition is so simple but there is so much depth and substance to it. Your piece is very subtle but it is able to convey a lot at the same time.

ReplyDeleteThis piece is so simple, and yet it is incredibly complex. There is not one element that overpowers another; they all seem to work together.
ReplyDeleteI really love this piece, I like the gentle use of color along with the harshness of the white piece stitched in. Just beautiful.

ReplyDeleteThere is a lot going on in your piece and it takes a minute to take it all in. I like the layering and your use of color. Nice.

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the attention focused on your eyes. Very cool composition.
ReplyDeleteMia Casesa- Your use of mixed media and collage is very intriguing. It makes me wonder why? Are the eyes some type of blind fold or mask. Well done.
