Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I loved your use of colors and the overall concept came out great. The human-animal was done very successfully. A background like an ocean or something would look really cool. Would've loved to see what you would've done with the body of the figure. It's too bad that this is an unfinished piece.
I really enjoyed your interpretation of a self-portrait. I could definitely tell that it was a sea turtle that had inspired you. I would like to see how a worked background would change the intensity of your portrait.
I think the way you worked the color was amazing, and the attention to detail really makes this a special piece. I do wonder about the choice to use cardboard at the size you did. I do like the piece on cardboard.
Interesting use of textures and patterns in this piece. I especially like the eyes and ear, how they are defined by great use of value (highlights!). I feel the shirt would have worked better if it was colored in darker; even if it was a flat color without the transparent qualities of seeing through to the cardboard. That might have given it more of a finished feel to the piece. Very creative approach to a self portrait with the use of a sea turtle.
Your piece is one of my favorites. I love how you incorporated animals into your face. I think it would benefit from a more complete body and making the size of the cardboard more uniform.
Great idea; I liked the use of tropical colors and how the proportions mimic a turtle. The background was a bit overwhelming (the amount of brown and the leftover space). Also, if you had had the time I think the shirt would have been a great asset to the piece.
I love the cardboard. Furthermore, the face is done really well. The purplish areas around the nose are my favorite. There is a lot of detail and information displayed in those areas. Overall, this is a very strong piece.
I think this piece is very unique and I love that you morphed yourself with an animal. I like the colors in the face but I think the shirt could use some more value shifts.
Aarya Engineer- I love your animalized face. Its so interesting to look at your use of colored pencil is amazing!!!!! I do have a couple of questions though, Why did you chose cardboard? Why did you not put as much detail in your shirt? Everything else though is great!
I like the use of the cardboard on this piece. I kind of wish you would have cut out where the line is. The detail in the face is really nicely done.
ReplyDeletevery cool visual concept. I'd like to see it completed.

ReplyDeleteI love the concept of your piece. The turtle-man came out great. I would just suggest working more on the shirt, adding highlights and lowlights.
