Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
interesting angle, I like that you don't include your face. The fabric comes across as velvet? if it was a very different material maybe a different medium could have conveyed that.
Really nice composition, great angle. I also think you used the negative space in this piece well. It makes the black pop even more. So the contrast also adds a lot.
I thought that this was a very interesting interpretation of a "self-portrait." When you stop to think about it, this is what we usually see of ourselves. I think that this image would be even more effective if you added some detail to the floor. It would ground your image.
Very interesting, I like the view of the self by the self, and I think the proportions are pretty successful, especially given the difficulty of the angle chosen.
I agree that this is a very pin-up drawing. Interesting point of view, although it seems like the view a person standing behind you and looking down, would have. Great use of values.
Very nice. I like the perspective you chose of yourself and that you can look at the piece from different angles and get totally different perspectives.
I know you said that you were having issues with the foreshortening in your project, but you pulled it together really well; I couldn't tell at all. I love that just by the direction you positioned your paper that it could be interpreted in so many ways. Your knees are one of my favorite parts; very successful and elegant.
I love your piece I think it is a really creative way to portray yourself. the angle makes this piece very interesting gives the viewer interest in who this person is and why you displayed there body like that. good job
As everyone has stated, the angle used in this piece is very successful. It presents a new perspective on the norm of self portraits. The dark blacks look great as do the highlights.
you took on a great challenge, and i think you were quite successful! you really nailed the proportions despite the tricky angle, and you successfully created a strong sense of depth and point of view. I'm glad that you decided not to cut off the feet, tat is to say you let them remain in the picture frame. I think it would be interesting to see your feed bare, but i think the shoes also work.
Mona Stipe- I love your composition it very unique and engaging. Your foreshortening of your your legs is awesome, I often have a very hard time with foreshortening.
The angle on this is very successful. It's different then just an drawn image of your face. The shading works very well also.

ReplyDeleteSelf portrait of yourself from your own point of view? Interesting. Very dark values in the dress. Is a sort of pin up drawing.

ReplyDeleteVery good use of foreshortening. It is effective and a difficult angle to master. Great job. The piece is very sexy also:)
