Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I like how there are two figures on this piece. I also on this piece wish I could have seen your artist statement to get a better understanding of the piece.
I definitely get a sense of your aesthetic style from this piece. There is clearly a narrative to this piece that I wish I knew more about. Mainly, I wonder how this narrative plays into the depiction of yourself.
Neat reflections of yourself on the floor, just a really cool idea. I know you have taken dance, so I enjoyed the way that you positioned yourself (how did you draw that?!). If you were going for a more realistic approach I would have made your hair just a bit darker and the skin on your left figure slightly lighter. Good composition, interesting story.
I also really enjoy the surrealistic atmosphere you created with this piece, specifically the interesting depth you've created with the horizon line. the clock in the background takes away from this a little by nearly touching the edge of the page. Technically, i think you did a good job of handling the foreshortening in the standing figure.
I like the way the piece looks. It is a tad confusing to understand. I'd love to hear your explanation behind the meaning of this piece. But, overall it looks great especially the figure on the right.
Ashley Peralta- Wow! Very surreal and symbolic! I think this may be my favorite piece of the whole class. I love how you seem to be melting into time, yet still dancing and yet having fun dancing with a snake. The clock in the background is very well balanced. Good job!

ReplyDeleteReminds me of salvador dali's clock piece, an interesting looking concept. I like the illustrative style.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very surreal and expressive piece. I love how you put reflections in the mirror. Its a very unique concept for a self portrait.
ReplyDeleteNice composition and interesting concept. I like your use of color and reflections, I would just like to see more variations in value.

ReplyDeleteI really like the concept in this piece and love how you have altered your own features and managed to capture a sense of motion in the figures.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, though I wasn't sure what your message about yourself was. Would love to read your artist's statement.

ReplyDeleteI like the way you approached the piece, very unique. The two figures play well off each other, I like that one is melting into the floor.
