Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I think the angle worked out well for you. I also like the creative interpretation of fitting such small figure into a scene. The colors seem a bit flat though, and could use more variation in their tones.
I like how you decided to use the large space of the canvas in correspondence to the figure, and I like how the figure is large in contrast to the landscape. It makes it feel as if the figure is a spirit or mother nature-like.
I like the narrative quality of this piece, and you did a great job placing the model in an environment. I would just suggest adding more highlights and lowlights to the landscape, so it looks more three-dimensional.
I really like how you placed your figure in nature. She reminds me of the Greek goddess Gia (mother earth). The placement of your figure in space makes her look as though she is a small part of a larger natural world.
I think that the background you chose really works well with the figure. It was a very creative approach and you did a good job making the two work well together.
I love the conceptual aspect of your piece and how is represents that humans are a part of nature. The background is very well done and detained however I would still like the model to be a little bit bigger so I could see more detail. Overall good job. I am impressed.
I think that oil is a good medium for you. There was a softer feel to your figure than in some works in the past, and the incorporation of the figure into a natural scene was a great idea.
The work you put into the landscape looks great. Everything looks very lush and colorful. I love how a large figure just randomly appears in the landscape. It creates a sense of scale and forces the viewer to take a second look at the piece.
The waterfall and plants look amazing. A very different approach from what everyone else was doing. I though it was very creative that you've turned the small figure into a giant. I think the landscape itself was incredible enough.
The proportions on your figure work well! I really enjoy the hairline showing on the model. I feel like the colours you've chosen are a little too literal though, and I wish I can see some variation in hue via the shadows for the model(like purple or blue in the shadows, as opposed to a darker peach). I do like the way you've changed the setting and while I still would like to see variation in hue, overall it works. The water and waterfall was painted very nicely.
I really like how successful this piece turned out to be. The waterfall looks very amazing and lifelike.

ReplyDeleteI like the fantastical quality of this piece. I also think that your choice to portray her in daylight work well with the soft lighting of her body.
