Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
The use of greens, blues and reds work really well to create the high lights and low lights. The background also makes the figure pop out and makes it successful.
I think that the figure needs more highlights. As it is now, the figure comes across as somewhat flat. Also, I am confused by the way you have used the greens in this piece. The greens are put in places that could represent either shadow or highlights. Then again, maybe this was a stylistic choice that you made.
I like the undertones of yellow and green you have in your skin tone, and the colors all work very well together. I would just like to see more light highlights, even white, so that the figure really stands out and looks rounded.
The green and blue undertones make her look more realistic. Her face is a bit dark, but you did very well with the light around her stomach. The red pillow and the blue background really make the colors in her skin pop.
I do like the range of colors used in the skin. I do think her face looked a little green in areas, but I liked the overall effect. I would like to see a little more depth of color used with the background, but I did like the basic color choices.
What stands out to me in this piece is the stylistic portrayal of the breast and the nipples. I think the way you painted that area looks great. It looks very flat but translates very well and the almost perfect triangle shape of the top breast works very well. I would love to see this style translated throughout the rest of your piece.
I find this piece to be sort of stylized by its use of straight lines. The dark clouded like background creates a sense of a on coming storm. I can't see the green color that everyone is mentioning,so I might be interpreting the whole piece wrong.
I quite enjoy the use of warm vs. cool colour scheme in this one. The colours on this are very lovely. I especially enjoy the use of a duller purple shadow for her skin shadows, and the reds that it evolves into. From afar, I feel like the red may be a little too capturing, and draws a focus away from the figure. Perhaps if the red was as dark of a value as the blue, the figure will pop out more.

ReplyDeleteThe composition is working well here. The red and blue with the yellowish figure between is working color wise.
ReplyDeleteGood use of complementary colors in the figure. The arm could be a little larger in order to convey the foreshortening that is happening.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy the color palette of the piece but the proportion of the face does not look right, and the colors of the body give little information
