LONG-FORMAT FIGURE STUDY

  1. Very nice use of color, I enjoy the richness that is imparted to the figure through your choices. Compliments on your success with such a difficult point of view. The only part of the image that seems a little odd to me, stylistically, is the hand in the upper left hand corner. It seems a little less proportionally correct when compared to the rest of the image.

  2. The color is very nice on this. The reds and blues on her foot and back are nice and in great detail which is good. The black is really great and makes the figure stand out.

  3. She looks a bit bruised on her ribs, and her limbs are bit stiff looking as well. try adding the cool and warms more subtly so they blend better,

  4. Interesting composition and foreshortening. I really like the hand on the right with the use of lights and darks. I like your strong hues in color throughout the piece. The background colors work to contrast the colors in the figure.

  5. The foreshortening of her lower legs and both arms and her face works well, but the foreshortening on her thighs/hip/rib cage area seems a bit awkward. I'm not able to tell what it is that is causing this. Maybe it is the way her torso is turned (but I know she was laying in that position). Maybe you portrayed her hips a bit too narrow.

  6. I like your use of color. And your choice to use black was also successful. It really makes the colors vibrant. I would just work on her right hand a little more, so the foreshortening is more believable.

  7. I enjoyed watching you create your piece. It looked like a watercolor painting at first, but as you began to add more and more layers it became more apparent that you were using oil. The angle that you chose to work from was difficult, however I think that you did very well with the foreshortening. The head seems somewhat large, but other than that great work.

  8. I love the overall composition of your piece as well as your color scheme. Foreshortening is very hard for my to accomplish but I believe you did it well.

  9. This is a good attempt at a difficult angle. The colors are good, but perhaps a bit more blending around the ribs and a little more detail on her right hand. Good job overall, though.

  10. I really liked how your piece looked like it was a created in watercolor when you first started. Although, I do also like the direction you took in adding more layers. Overall, I really like your composition and your use of really dark blacks. I love the area around the foot and the pillow. It's very subtle but translates very well. I think that is the most successful part of your piece. I also enjoy your use of blues and greens in the pillow.

  11. I like you use of blues and greens for the background, has a water like quality to it. This must've been a tough angle to paint at but I think you've captured the form of the figure well. The hands were made very well and the little detailed strokes of the foot looks amazing. I love the flowing style of strokes you used.

  12. I'm so excited to see this finished! I recall you mentioning about using purple for the background, but I like the way the black turned out instead. Your shadows and highlights are very deep, and the form and weight in the figure is captured very well. I also feel like the blue and green were good choices to even out the warm bright colours in her skin.
