Students learn basic anatomy and will begin to develop an understanding of the way a figure inhabits space; thus able to successfully reproduce this space in two dimensions. The goal of the course is to learn academic, realistic representation of the figure: Emphasis will be on accurately rendering the figure on the page in proper proportion. Students work up to developing a personal style within the confines of academic figurative art.
I really like the composition, especially the colors used for the skin. They create a warm and inviting image. I think the white almost detracts from the rest of the image, in that way, but only because it is comparatively stark.
I really like this piece for the painterly textures created by your brushstrokes, and the warm color palette you used. I like the contrast in your tones of the blue and orange, and I feel it is successful for the image as a whole. Your use of highlights are also well done.
I saw the progression of this piece as you worked on it in class. I think that you handled the foreshortening of the model's body very well. The only suggestion that I have at this time is the same as Julia: the background is too white, and this does draw the eye away from your figure.
I think your composition is very successful, and the smooth texture you got with the paint is really nice. I would just suggest adding more white for your highlights to really push the 3D feel.
I think that your piece turned out very well. I love that you were able to get the highlights in her hair and skin: it makes her glow. The proportions are also lovely and I have seen remarkable improvement since the beginning of the class. Great job!
I love the golden under tone you use in your piece as well as your highlights I would suggest putting a little more detail in the hands and putting something in the background instead of leaving it white. However your pillow in amazing. Good job.
I really like the yellows that appear throughout the figure in this piece. I really enjoy how the hair is almost graphic in nature and contrasts to the more painterly body. I think that looks great. Also, the pillow and its colors and stripes look really nice. The hand on the right looks a bit off but other than that great job.
I really enjoy this painting still. The colours are muted and not too much for the eye and I like the composition of the figure. I am put off a bit by the white space beneath her bum though, which makes the figure seem like she's rising into the air a bit. With a little more information in her immediate surroundings, I think this piece can be at its top. Overall, it's very lovely.
I absolutly love your painting soo much! I think it shows how much progress you have made in class! you did such a great job! I love all of the colors as well.

ReplyDeleteGood use of foreshortening considering you've never painted before. The tones are getting there, they are still a little too orange.

ReplyDeleteI like the colorful pallet used on the pillow. Everything has a very rough texture to it.
