COLLAGE/ COMPOSITE

  1. I like the creative use of sketches for the textile design on the shirt. The eyes really work for your theme of innocence, in a way that they give off that innocent, wide-eyed feeling. I also like the glossy look in them. I like the contrast between the flat shirt design and the sculpted image of the figure and I like the deep, defining lines of the face and back of the neck area. It pushes the image from the page as if the figure was flat like the shirt, but it is starting to form as a whole and push forward. Works really well with the collage piece of the flower, which produces a flat shadow on the page, yet the petals gravitate upwards off the page. Also, great use of composition on the page and use of positive/negative space.

  2. I enjoyed this piece, especially the use of figures to create the delicate detail of the dress. I think it is sad the blue of the paper did not come through so well in the image, because I think that added a lot to the piece.

  3. I like the idea of innocence being showed by the flower. Nice use of sketches in dress. Value scale is also done nicely.

  4. I really like the delicateness of the white/beige colors you used. They came together well with the subject of matter in the picture. Very nice expression and reflection in the eyes, they are my favorite part.

  5. The paper and flat drawing behind it have potential to be a series. The head appears a bit too large for the body, you could either exaggerate this and make it stylized or make it proportional. I think the flower is a bit too large, also work on your shading, greater tonal variation could bring out the piece a lot more. This has potential, push it as much as you can.

  6. I love your piece. The values are amazing especially in the eyes. I love the flower over the mouth it works very well. I also thought it was very creative to show other body parts as parts of the pattern of her dress.

  7. The contrast between the pencil drawn elements and the three-dimensional paper flower create a tension that is very pleasing to the eye. Personally, I think that had the figure been made larger, maybe allowing a small portion of the top of the head to be out of frame, the viewer's eye would be drawn more to the figure's facial features and the flower.

  8. I liked this piece very much. I think your use of mark-making and value was well done. The only suggestions I have are to make the body a bit bigger to match the head better and add a few more falling petals to fill the space in the lower right a bit more evenly. Very nice work.

  9. I like the values and the technique on your figure. The figure was done very well. I love how you used different paper and layering techniques to create a sense of depth. It would have looked really good if you had done something similar to the figure and the background. If the figure was another layer on top of the background it create even more depth, make the figure stand out more, and take your technique further.

  11. I think that it was so great that you did three dimensional art for your collage. Even more cool was that it really didn't look like a collage until I got up close to look at it and see your cut up figure drawings. Innocence is definitely the message I get when looking at your piece, so I believe it was very clear and successful. Cropping down the upper right and right side of the picture would frame your picture better. For me, I don't think that all that negative space is necessary.

  13. I really loved how you incorporated both a 2D and 3D aspect to your collage. There is a very good range in values and you utilized all the techniques used in class very well with this piece. There are very amazing design elements.
